Gautama Buddha

The time of Gautama's birth and death are uncertain: most early-20th-century historians dated his lifetime as 563 BCE to 483 BCE, but more recent opinion dates his death to between 486 and 483 BCE or, according to some, between 411 and 400 BCE.

The time of Gautama's birth and death are uncertain or invented. No actual written word by Buddha himself has never been found, so all his words are "hearsay" needing to most critically consider Buddhism what it really is and what it needs to be for you.

Buddhism without the later added mumbo jumbo, is a very good to pursue but more important; a life without suffering (Dukkha).

Democracy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy

Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens participate equally—either directly or through elected representatives—in the proposal, development, and creation of laws. It encompasses social, economic and cultural conditions that enable the free and equal practice of political self-determination.

These principles are reflected in all eligible citizens being equal before the law and having equal access to legislative processes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy

Separation of powers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_powers

The separation of powers, often imprecisely used interchangeably with the trias politica principle,[1] is a model for the governance of a state (or who controls the state). The model was first developed in Ancient Greece and Rome. Under this model, the state is divided into branches, each with separate and independent powers and areas of responsibility so that no branch has more power than the other branches. The normal division of branches is into a legislature, an executive, and a judiciary.

Secularization

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secularization

Secularization or secularisation (see spelling differences) is the transformation of a society from close identification with religious values and institutions toward nonreligious (or irreligious) values and secular institutions.

The secularization thesis refers to the belief that as societies progress, particularly through modernization and rationalization, religion loses its authority in all aspects of social life and governance.[1] The term secularization is also used in the context of the lifting of the monastic restrictions from a member of the clergy.[2]
